What an adjustment actually is, what to expect on day one, and how to know if it's working.
What an adjustment actually does
An adjustment is a precise, controlled force applied to a specific joint that isn't moving the way it should. The goal isn't to "put a bone back in" — it's to restore motion to a segment that has become stiff or misaligned, which changes the signals your nervous system is receiving from that area.
That popping sound people talk about is simply gas releasing from inside the joint. It isn't a measure of whether the adjustment worked, and plenty of effective techniques make no sound at all.
Why we measure before we treat
At Elevation Spine Center we practice Chiropractic BioPhysics® (CBP®), which means your care starts with objective measurement — posture analysis and x-ray where appropriate — so we can see the structure behind your symptoms rather than guessing at it.
Measurement matters because it gives you and us the same yardstick. If the plan is working, we can show you on paper instead of asking you to take our word for it.
What day one looks like
Your first visit is mostly conversation and testing, not treatment.
- History: what hurts, how long, what you've already tried
- Exam: range of motion, posture, orthopedic and neurological testing
- Imaging when it's clinically warranted
- A straight answer on whether we believe we can help you
How to tell if it's working
Pain is the loudest signal but the least reliable one — it often improves before structure does, and it can flare during a normal healing curve. Watch the other markers too: how far you can turn your head, how long you can sit before symptoms start, how you sleep, how quickly you recover after a hard day.
We re-examine at set intervals and compare against your starting measurements. If the numbers aren't moving, the plan changes.
What about cost and insurance
We keep pricing transparent and quote it up front, so you know what care costs before you commit. We provide a superbill to any patient who wants to submit for out-of-network reimbursement through their own plan.
